President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has emphasized the importance of investing in the well-being of the youth to support the nation’s growing elderly population. In his message on World Population Day, the President highlighted that fostering healthy habits among young people and protecting them from diseases is key to building a productive workforce. He further noted that strengthening the care economy would ensure high-quality care for the elderly, while simultaneously easing the burden on families.

Furthermore, the President underscored that providing education and employment opportunities for the youth, who comprise 39 percent of the population, remains a top government priority. He noted that under the “Maldives 2.0” initiative, efforts are underway to modernize services and establish a digital economy. To enhance development policies through robust demographic data, the President also announced the decision to conduct the 2030 census using a modern “hybrid” methodology.
