In a strategic move to advance Maldivian football, the Executive Committee of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has officially decided to decentralize its operations by establishing regional associations across four key zones. Under this new structure, dedicated associations will be formed for the North, Central, Male’, and South regions. These regional bodies will be responsible for organizing competitions within their respective jurisdictions, allowing the central FAM to focus primarily on the management of national teams and the oversight of general football policies.
Furthermore, the committee has approved the football calendar for the 2025/2026 season and scheduled an Extraordinary Congress to be held this coming July. In addition to these administrative reforms, the FAM has also decided to pursue legal action against a private company that has refused to vacate a plot of land in the Maafannu Stadium area, which is slated for development with the assistance of FIFA.
