The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has highlighted the pivotal role of the tourism sector in maintaining the stability of the Maldivian economy. According to a report released by the institution, the strong global demand for Maldivian tourism has bolstered official reserves and revitalized economic activities. However, it is anticipated that economic growth may experience a slight deceleration in the coming year due to rising energy costs linked to conflicts in the Middle East and shifting trends in the tourism industry. Nevertheless, the economy is projected to rebound in the medium term. Furthermore, the IMF has recommended the establishment of free trade agreements and the implementation of fiscal reforms to reduce national debt and strengthen the country’s economic foundation.
