The Maldives Correctional Service has officially launched ten new educational and vocational courses aimed at ensuring that individuals released from prison are skilled and productive members of society who are well-accepted by the community. These courses encompass various fields, including agriculture, electrical work, Islamic studies, and management.

The Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusan, stated that the prison system is being restructured to empower inmates with new skills, enabling them to become self-reliant upon their release. Furthermore, the Minister highlighted ongoing legislative efforts to amend the law so that each day an inmate participates in a rehabilitation program will result in a one-day reduction of their prison sentence.

Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zareer also noted that significant efforts are being made to strengthen the educational framework within prisons and to provide inmates with practical, hands-on vocational training.
