In a large-scale joint operation conducted by Maldives Immigration and the Maldives Police Service to identify undocumented expatriates in Malé, 1,344 foreign nationals were screened. Out of these, 254 individuals were taken into custody.
As part of “Operation Kurangi,” authorities inspected a total of 639 locations, leading to the closure of two establishments operating illegally. The group apprehended consists of 219 men and 35 women.
Maldives Immigration noted that a significant number of foreign nationals are found to be operating private businesses and generating profit outside the scope of their authorized work permits. Consequently, the government is intensifying efforts to deport such individuals and take strict legal action against their respective employers.
