The Minister of Construction and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, has stated that the “Rasmalé” project is a vital and essential initiative to secure a permanent solution to the housing challenges in the Greater Malé Region.
The Minister highlighted that because land in Hulhumalé, Gulhifalhu, and Giraavarufalhu has already been fully allocated, there is currently no remaining land available for further residential development in the region. He noted that even if all available land parcels were utilized, they would only accommodate approximately 12,000 housing units. Therefore, the Rasmalé project stands as the only viable option to guarantee housing needs for the next 20 years.
Furthermore, Dr. Muththalib emphasized that the government is prioritizing the establishment of essential services and infrastructure in previously reclaimed areas to ensure they are fully functional and accessible to the public.
