The Minister of Health, Geela Ali, has stated that extensive efforts are underway, in collaboration with the state-owned pharmaceutical company, to address the logistical challenges in supplying essential medicines to the Maldives. Although private companies currently supply the majority of the nation’s pharmaceutical requirements, the government aims to enhance the capacity of the state-owned enterprise to stabilize market prices and ensure a consistent supply.
Furthermore, the government is working to maintain uniform pricing through the Aasandha scheme and to streamline the availability of medicines across pharmacies in the atolls. In response to public concerns regarding shortages and escalating costs, the state-owned pharmaceutical company has successfully imported its initial shipment and has commenced distribution.
