Meekail Ahmed Naseem and Alhan Fahmy have decided to contest against former President Mohamed Nasheed for the position of MDP Chairperson. Meekail’s primary objective is to empower the younger generation and prioritize the collective interests and trust of the party’s general membership over individual agendas, with a focus on securing victory in the 2028 presidential election. On the other hand, Alhan’s vision centers on restoring democratic principles within the party.
Furthermore, President Nasheed and Fayyaz Ismail have proposed a strategic plan to field Fayyaz as the party’s presidential candidate for 2028. Their proposal also includes significant structural reforms to the Maldivian governance system, specifically aiming to separate the roles of the Head of State and the Head of Government.
