The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) stands as one of the oldest and most responsible institutions in the country. Since its official establishment on April 21, 1892, this force has made immense sacrifices over the past 134 years to safeguard Islam, the nation, and its citizens. The courage displayed by the military in defending the country against dangerous historical aggressions—most notably the attack of November 3, 1988—remains the foundation of the independence we enjoy today.
In line with modern advancements, the military’s capabilities have evolved, and today the institution possesses the full capacity to protect the Maldives’ sovereignty by land, sea, and air. Furthermore, the military has consistently been at the forefront of providing humanitarian assistance during major national crises, such as the 2004 Tsunami, the water crisis, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Maldivian soldiers are a steadfast group who prioritize the nation above their own lives, drawing inspiration from the jihad of our national heroes to serve with unwavering commitment in every circumstance.
