President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government currently has no plans to introduce further amendments to the Constitution. The President made this remark in response to a question from a journalist regarding the outcome of the public referendum held on the 4th of this month. Speaking to the press, President Dr. Muizzu noted that the results of the referendum clearly demonstrate that the citizens are not in favor of amending the Constitution. Consequently, he affirmed that in alignment with the people’s decision, there are no intentions to pursue additional constitutional changes in the future.

“The referendum has sent a very significant message from the people. It shows that the public does not widely support or favor frequent changes to the Constitution. Therefore, we do not intend to propose any further amendments that would require constitutional changes moving forward,” President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated. The President further clarified that while there are no plans for constitutional amendments, necessary legislative reforms will continue to be pursued through the amendment of existing laws. He emphasized that his decisions are guided by the pulse of the people, adding that the constitutional amendments introduced to date were essential changes sought by the public.

Highlighting his commitment to working closely with the citizens, the President reiterated that priority will always be given to listening to the voices of the people and implementing necessary reforms based on their feedback.
