The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation is working towards the goal of connecting the entire Maldives through the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry network by June this year. Currently, the service is operational across 145 islands in 15 atolls, with services scheduled to commence in Meemu Atoll within this month.
While efforts are underway to construct the necessary ferries and finalize schedules for the remaining atolls—Kaafu, Alifu Dhaalu, Alifu Alifu, and Vaavu—the Ministry noted that global supply chain challenges have caused some delays in acquiring essential materials. Despite these hurdles, measures are being taken to expedite the process. Once nationwide connectivity is established, the project will move into its second phase, focusing on inter-atoll and inter-zonal connectivity.
