Former Minister Ahmed Mahloof has stated that the majority of political parties in the Maldives support holding the presidential and parliamentary elections on the same day. Mahloof noted that parties including the PNC, MDA, JP, and Adhaalath Party favor this approach, adding that the MDP had also previously expressed interest in combined elections. However, he alleged that the MDP’s current opposition to the move is driven by political motives. It is widely believed that synchronizing the elections would be more cost-effective and beneficial for the nation.
