Minister of Defence, Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, has stated that there is no imminent military threat to the Maldives resulting from the ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The Minister emphasized that the Government remains steadfast in its decision to prohibit any nation from utilizing Maldivian airspace for military purposes related to the conflict.

Regarding the specific countries that requested the use of the nation’s airspace, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, noted that diplomatic protocols dictate such information can only be disclosed with the prior consent of the respective nations. The Government is currently focused on enhancing the military’s capabilities to monitor and protect the Maldives’ maritime and aerial territories, ensuring that no opportunities are afforded for illegal activities within the country’s jurisdiction.
