Minister Thoriq Ibrahim has announced that the government is currently working on introducing two specialized visa categories—tailored specifically for remote workers and content creators—as part of an initiative to increase tourist arrivals to the Maldives.

In an effort to mitigate the negative impacts of the Middle Eastern conflict on the tourism sector, the government is exploring ways to ease visa regulations to encourage longer stays. Additionally, strategic efforts are being made to tap into new markets and establish additional travel routes.

The Minister further highlighted that significant priority is being given to diversifying the tourism industry. This includes the development and promotion of niche sectors such as sports fishing, technical diving, Halal tourism, and educational tourism. The government anticipates that these strategic shifts will yield substantial benefits for the guesthouse industry and the broader tourism sector of the Maldives.
