The Wall Street Journal has reported that Iran launched two missiles aimed at the joint U.S.-UK military base on Diego Garcia as part of its retaliatory strikes against Israeli and American military installations. According to the report, one of the long-range missiles crashed due to a technical failure, while the other was engaged by a U.S. naval vessel, though it remains unclear whether the interception was successful.
While neither Iran nor the United States has officially commented on the incident, the attempt to strike Diego Garcia—located approximately 4,000 kilometers away—is seen as a significant demonstration of Iran’s advancing missile capabilities. In response to the escalating situation, the United Kingdom has granted the United States permission to utilize the base for defensive operations and to counter Iranian missile threats.
The ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States has resulted in over 1,300 fatalities to date, as Iran continues to target U.S. military positions across various locations in the Middle East.
