Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has announced a tender to appoint a party for the detailed architectural and engineering design of the terminal and various facilities at the new Thilafushi Commercial Port. This initiative is part of a major strategic project to relocate the nation’s primary commercial gateway.
Designed to cater to the country’s maritime needs for the next 30 years, this project aims to expand the current capacity of the Malé Commercial Port fourfold, thereby significantly boosting economic productivity. The scope of work includes the design of the main terminal, administrative buildings, control tower, and essential utility infrastructure.
The government aims to complete the relocation by November next year. The primary objectives of this transition are to enhance operational efficiency in cargo handling, improve service quality, and ultimately reduce the cost of imported goods. Interested parties are invited to submit their proposals by the 25th of this month.
