President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the construction of a state-of-the-art, multi-story indoor futsal complex, capable of hosting international matches, will begin in April this year.
Delivering the Presidential Address at the People’s Majlis, the President stated that the project would feature a primary futsal stadium along with four additional training pitches.
President Muizzu further noted that the necessary funding has been secured and the land has been allocated for the project. He emphasized that this facility will meet international standards, enabling the Maldives to host global competitions. This project is a key component of the government’s “Hafthaa 14” (Week 14) roadmap.
The absence of an indoor futsal pitch has been a long-standing concern and a frequent grievance within the Maldives’ futsal community. The establishment of this complex is expected to enhance the performance of the national futsal team and pave the way for international tournaments to be held in the country.
Additionally, this modern complex will elevate the standard of domestic competitions and provide better facilities for teams to prepare for international stages.
The Maldives is currently a dominant force in regional futsal, having secured the championship title in the inaugural SAFF Futsal Championship. The President underscored that developing the sports and fitness sector is crucial for fostering a healthy society and preventing lifestyle-related diseases.
