Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, has stated that an environment for every political party to conduct its political activities has now been established in the Maldives. He made these remarks while speaking on PSM News’ “Hafthaa 104” program in connection with the government’s two-year anniversary. Establishing political stability in the country is a pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. In this regard, he had promised to end the practice of taking action against various individuals for political reasons and to facilitate the freedom of expression as stipulated in the law.
Speaking about the President’s pledge, Speaker of the People’s Majlis Abdul Raheem Abdulla said that the current government is very different from previous governments formed in the Maldives. He noted that in addition to continuing the work started by the previous administration without interruption, no individual has been arrested for political reasons during the past two years. He stated that a level of political stability has been established in these two years that no previous government in the Maldives had been able to achieve.

“There are no concerns of any kind in the Maldivian political arena right now. The environment for every political party to carry out the political work it wishes to do has been established in the Maldives today. A party’s activities will be based on the level of support it has. This is not something that the government is stopping or influencing in any way,” said the Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
The Speaker of the Majlis stated that stability in the nation can only be established by ensuring justice, and that this will be achieved through the steps taken by President Dr. Muizzu to ensure the independence of the judiciary. “Where there is no justice, there will be no peace. No development can be brought. The commitment to making the judiciary independent is evident even by looking at the budget. For a nation to progress peacefully on the path of development with stability, what is most needed is the existence of a free and independent judicial system. The President is accomplishing that,” the Speaker said.
The Speaker of the People’s Majlis said that the people gave the super-majority in the People’s Majlis to the ruling PNC to establish stability in the country and bring the development desired by the citizens. Therefore, the Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, affirmed that the Majlis will provide the necessary cooperation to the government’s efforts for the nation’s stability and development in the most complete manner, as the people wish.
