MACL Entrusted with Developing Nilandhoo Airport to be Completed Within 2 Years and 6 Months

The development of the airport to be established in Nilandhoo, Faafu Atoll, has been entrusted to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The agreement for the construction of the airport in Nilandhoo was signed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during a meeting with the residents of Nilandhoo, as part of his current tour to Faafu Atoll. At the ceremony held to sign the agreement for developing an airport in F. Nilandhoo, Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Moosa Zameer, signed on behalf of the government. Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Managing Director of MTCC, signed on behalf of the company.

Speaking at the ceremony held to meet with the people of Nilandhoo, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu highlighted this project, stating that one of the most important promises made to the people of Nilandhoo was to develop an airport on the island. He added that the airport, which will be developed with an 1800-meter runway, will be the most modern airport. “What we have signed here is an agreement to entrust MTCC with the development of the airport. This includes all civil infrastructure work and operations. It’s a project signed to include everything. Through this agreement, MTCC will develop a state-of-the-art airport on this island. From today, within a maximum of 30 months, the work on this airport will be completed and made available to you. I assure you of that,” the President said.

Faafu Atoll is one of the few atolls in the Maldives without an airport. Nilandhoo Airport is one of the 12 airports that the government has announced for development during this term.
