Burnley has stated that they are pleased that the most recent Premier League champions, Liverpool, managed to win only through a last-minute penalty. Speaking after the match, coach Scott Parker said he was very happy that Liverpool had to wait until extra time after the full match duration. “I’m emphasizing this in this match because I’m very pleased with my players’ work. Everything is about the players’ effort. When they work so hard, Liverpool should have to win by a penalty,” the coach said.

He said that the penalty awarded to Liverpool in the last minute of extra time, when the ball hit a player’s hand, could be viewed from a different perspective. “However, considering the speed at which the ball came, where it hit, and how close the players were, a coach could say that players should have their hands behind their backs at that moment. But I think that’s not an easy thing to do at that moment. So, my players deserve credit for their effort,” the coach said.

With this defeat, Burnley stands at 17th place in the table with three points from four matches played so far. Liverpool is in first place, having won all four matches played, with 12 points.
