State Trading Organization (STO) has begun importing and selling oranges at lower prices in the market. Currently, oranges are being sold in the market for between 10 and 13 rufiyaa each. In terms of weight, this translates to approximately 72 to 80 rufiyaa per kilogram. As this price is considered high for the general public, STO has started importing and selling oranges at a reduced price. STO is selling oranges for 35 rufiyaa per kilogram. STO oranges are available at the company’s People’s Choice stores.

It is a government policy to facilitate access to essential goods at affordable prices when market prices increase. To achieve this, some items are sold at reduced prices through STO. Recently, when onion prices increased, STO also imported and sold onions at lower prices. Additionally, STO imports and sells the most expensive items at reduced prices during the month of Ramadan. The government’s goal is to ensure that the general public can access food, beverages, and other necessities at affordable prices.
