The UN has stated that there is a very narrow window of opportunity to alleviate hunger in Gaza, Palestine. An international organization that assesses hunger levels has reported that thousands of Gaza residents are experiencing extreme levels of hunger. The organization stated that widespread hunger has spread to some areas of Gaza, including Gaza City. From March until mid-May, the Israelis did not allow any food or aid supplies to enter Gaza. Even now, Israel obstructs the entry of adequate food and aid supplies into the territory.
UN aid chief Tom White said that there is time only until the end of September to prevent the widespread hunger situation from reaching Deir al-Balah in central Gaza and Khan Younis in the south. He added that even now, time is running short, and the narrow window of opportunity to deliver aid is closing. The UN has called on the Israeli government to allow unrestricted entry of aid supplies into Gaza.
Since October 7, 2023, when Israel began its aggressive attacks on Gaza, 64,000 people have been martyred. Many people are also being martyred due to hunger. In the past 24 hours alone, 14 people have been martyred in Israeli attacks.
