
Statistics from Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) show that goods were sent to 18 countries via sea-to-air transit in August. Sea-to-air cargo service involves transiting goods that arrive by sea and sending them to other countries by air. The sea-to-air cargo service was introduced jointly by MACL and MPL on May 15, 2024. The sea-to-air cargo service continues to generate significant revenue for the Maldives. According to statistics released by MPL, 291 tons of cargo were exported from the Maldives via sea-to-air transit in August. MPL states that this amount of cargo was transported in 77 TEU containers. In August, cargo was sent abroad through 9 airlines.

Additionally, MPL notes that as the Maldives is a country served by many international airlines, there are numerous opportunities for expanding this service.
