Tourist Numbers Reach 1.5 Million with Significant Growth

So far this year, 1.5 million tourists have visited the Maldives. This is a 9.7% increase compared to the same period last year. According to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, 1,520,699 tourists had visited the Maldives by September 7th. This is a 9.7% increase compared to the 1,386,554 tourists who visited during the same period last year. The number of tourists arriving in the first 7 days of September has increase of September has increased by 23.6% compared to the same period last year, with a total of 33,773 tourists.

  • March: 203,468 tourists
  • April: 198,322 tourists
  • May: 135,614 tourists
  • June: 141,772 tourists
  • July: 186,738 tourists
  • August: 192,058 tourists
  • Up to September 7: 33,773 tourists

China is the country from which the most tourists visit the Maldives. More than 200,000 tourists have visited from that country. Looking at the top 5 countries from which tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, each country has sent more than 100,000 tourists.

Top 5 countries with the most tourists:

  • China: 240,828 tourists
  • Russia: 182,315 tourists
  • United Kingdom: 136,619 tourists
  • Italy: 107,736 tourists
  • Germany: 104,764 tourists

Currently, an average of over 6,000 tourists arrive in the Maldives daily. The government aims to bring 2.3 million tourists to the Maldives this year. To achieve this target, an additional 800,000 tourists are needed. With the arrival of 1.5 million tourists to the Maldives, the Ministry of Tourism stated that they are optimistic about achieving this year’s target. While the Maldives has won the award for the World’s Most Popular Destination for 5 consecutive years, every tourist is an important participant in this journey.
