Fenaka Corporation has today appealed to the public not to engage in activities that damage electrical cables, following an incident in Addu City where damage to an electrical cable led to a power outage, causing significant inconvenience to the public. In a statement release statement released by Fenaka Corporation, which provides electricity services to Addu City, it was stated that the power outage in the connected islands of Addu occurred last night at midnight due to a short circuit that happened when someone attempted to damage a cable at Substation 41 in Addu, resulting in a complete shutdown of the Central Power House. The issue was resolved and power was restored approximately four hours later.
Fenaka stated that such acts not only damage company property but also cause hardship to the general public. The corporation emphasized that these actions could pose dangers to both the perpetrators and innocent bystanders, potentially risking lives and physical well-being, and therefore urged against such behavior.
According to the corporation, work continues uninterrupted to find a permanent solution to Addu’s electricity issues. The individual who attempted to cut the cable was electrocuted and is currently receiving treatment at Addu Equatorial Hospital. He has suffered a head injury and burns on parts of his body. The issue of frequent power outages in the connected islands of Addu due to problems with power plant generators is significant. Fenaka has previously stated that a permanent solution to this problem will only be achieved once the new power plant is completed.
