South Asian Super Cup: A Big Win for Maldives in the First Match

The Maldives has won the first match against Sri Lanka in the South Asian Super Cup 2025. The match, played at Sri Lanka’s Race Course International Stadium, was won by the Maldives with a score of 3-0. In the 27th minute of the first half, Naiz Hassan scored the first goal from a corner kick, giving the Maldives the lead. The Maldives scored their second goal in the 34th minute of the match the match. This goal was scored by Ibrahim Mahudhee Hussain (Feydhoo Ibbe). This goal came from a pass by Naiz Hassan, who entered the area and cleared the goal, allowing Ibbe to score.

The player who played the most significant role in scoring the Maldives’ second goal was the famous forward Ahmed Rizwan (Rizey), who was playing in the starting eleven in today’s match. It was a beautiful goal set up by a pass from Rizey, who had won the ball from Sri Lankan players in midfield and bypassed the Sri Lankan defense line to pass to Naiz. In the 91st minute of the match, the young forward Ilan, at just 16 years old, made an assist in his first match for the national team. Ilan received the ball on a counter-attack, moved forward, and passed it to the unmarked Ali Fasir (Sentey). Sentey scored the Maldives’ third goal with a low shot to the far corner of the keeper from Ilan’s pass.

With a three-goal advantage, the Maldives will enter the second leg of the Super Cup next Tuesday. Before this match, the Sri Lankan coach had said that they would defeat the Maldives in the first match and secure the Super Cup trophy before the second match. He also mentioned that they knew the Maldives very well and had studied everything about the Maldivian team before facing the match. While the Maldives won this match, this was the first match played by the Maldives after Mohamed Shiyaz (Mohan) took charge of the team. The second match between Sri Lanka and the Maldives will be held next Tuesday.
