
Minister Abdullah Rafiu has stated that there is a close relationship between the Ministry of Sports and Fitness and the sports associations. The Minister sai said that there is a close relationship between the Sports Ministry and the associations, and that many different programs are currently being conducted in collaboration with the associations. This includes training team managers and offering courses such as sports psychology and sports nutrition to athletes, the Minister said. “I would say that, God willing, the relationship is strengthening, and we are able to conduct various programs. These include courses for training team managers, as well as courses in sports psychology and sports nutrition for athletes, and other such activities that are ongoing among us,” the Minister said.
The Minister said that the Sports Ministry places great importance on strengthening the relationship with sports associations. In this regard, as international tournaments are now being held in the Maldives, the Sports Ministry has been facilitating and providing the necessary resources for these events. The Minister said that the sports associations will receive assistance from the Sports Ministry for every such endeavor. “So I would say that with the increase in international tournaments held in the Maldives, we are facilitating all these matters. God willing, now we have paved the way for the Carrom World Cup to be held in the Maldives later this year. Then there’s the Commonwealth Beach Handball that I mentioned. Along with that, I would say that for surf surfing and other sports, for tournaments held both in the Maldives and abroad, the Ministry will, God willing, provide the maximum possible assistance,” the Minister said.
The Sports Ministry has been conducting various training programs to improve the standard of athletes. Recently, the Maldives National Institute of Sports and the Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) jointly held a workshop on Sports Nutrition and Sports Psychology. 38 participants took part in that workshop.
