Ahmed Mubeen, Chairman of New Radiant Sports Club, has stated that the former enthusiasm for football can only be restored through collective effort. Speaking at a ceremony to introduce new players and coaching staff who have recently joined New Radiant, Mubeen said that the work New Radiant is doing is an effort to improve the current state of Maldivian football. “What we are doing is not just work associated with New Radiant alone. The work we are doing is an ongoing effort to improve the current state of Maldivian football,” Mubeen said.
Mubeen noted that he has sought opinions and advice from various individuals involved in sports to overcome the current situation facing football, and discussions have been held regarding potential solutions. “As many football enthusiasts in the Maldives know, outside of my official duties, I have spent much of my free time over the past days engaging in extensive discussions with leaders of various teams who love sports and football, exploring what we can do to improve the current situation,” said the Chairman of New Radiant Sports Club. Mubeen stated that clubs in the Maldives need to become self-sufficient, and we need to look at ways to achieve this. He revealed that discussions on this matter have also been held with club leaders.
Mubeen appealed for everyone to work together as a team to overcome the delicate situation facing Maldivian football. “As you all know, Maldivian football is at a very delicate point, in a rather different situation. We are at a difficult time where we can only overcome our current position if all football lovers come together and work as a team,” Mubeen said. He also mentioned that this year marks the 75th anniversary, the Diamond Jubilee of Maldivian football, and with a new team taking over the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), expectations for the sport have greatly increased. Mubeen expressed hope that with the new FAM team, the former fervor for football would be restored, filling the stadiums once again.
Mubeen stated that football is a sport connected to the Maldivian pulse, and that Maldivians are people who love sports. He called for all teams to work together to bring back the lost football enthusiasm of the past. “Football is truly something connected to all of our heartbeats. Many Maldivian citizens are sports lovers, especially football lovers. So, the work that remains is for all these teams to come together to bring back the enthusiasm that has been lost in recent times. Therefore, I hope, and it is the hope and determination of the entire New Radiant team, that God willing, in the coming days, this will improve. We hope this will be revitalized, and in the time we all have to love sports, we will come to watch the matches played at Galolhu Stadium, and see the former enthusiasm and passion return to Galolhu Stadium,” Mubeen concluded.
