The national football team has begun training in preparation for the South Asian Super Cup 2025, scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka.

The national team started their training today evening at the National Football Stadium, gearing up for the South Asian Super Cup to be held in Lanka from September 4-10. The national team is preparing for this tournament under the guidance of the newly appointed Head Coach of the national team, Mohamed Shiyaz (Mohan). The two matches against Lanka will be the first matches the national team will play under Mohan’s coaching.

As the national team prepares for these matches, the squad selected for these two games includes goalkeeper Mohamed Faisal and two young team players, Mohamed Ilan Imran and Hassan Raid. Two years ago, 37-year-old goalkeeper Faisal was left out of the final squad for the SAFF Championship due to a knee injury. After undergoing surgery in September of that year, Faisal has since been focusing on recovery, and is now participating in the pre-season of Buru Sports Club, which he recently joined.

Additionally, this time’s squad has given opportunities to Hisam Saleem (Koki) from Club Eagles and Ahzam Rasheed, who captained the national under-19 team.

The Maldives will face Lanka in the South Asian Super Cup on the sixth and ninth of next month.
