As part of expanding sports facilities across the Maldives, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a specialized handball court will be constructed in HDh. Kumudhoo next year, as included in the upcoming year’s budget. The President made this statement during his speech to the residents of Kumudhoo while on his tour of Haa Dhaalu Atoll. Addressing the people of Kumudhoo, the President said that as part of expanding sports facilities, the next year’s budget includes plans for building handball courts, and under this project, a specialized handball court will also be constructed in Kumudhoo.
“Building handball courts is a major project planned for implementation across all corners of the Maldives next year. This island will also have a handball court as part of this initiative. We have decided to launch a massive program to build handball courts in every island of the Maldives over a two-year period,” the President said. During his visit to Kumudhoo, the President also laid the foundation for a Fitness and Recreation Center, fulfilling one of his presidential pledges. Referring to this project, the President stated that the center would provide opportunities for the island’s residents to engage in exercise activities and indoor sports.
In his meeting with Kumudhoo residents, the President also assured them of additional sports projects for the island. He mentioned that a volleyball court would be included in next year’s budget, and the football field that was started by the previous administration would be further developed with additional facilities.
“Looking at the sports sector, work on a football field is ongoing. Since this field was a project that was previously assigned or started, it’s not being built to its full scope yet. Meaning, it doesn’t include fencing and lighting. All the fields that this government is now starting to build include fencing for protection around the perimeter, and lighting for night-time play,” the President said. He added that they would enhance the ongoing football field project in Kumudhoo by adding these features. The President assured that the government would assign this work to a company, and the additional work would begin as soon as the current construction of the field is completed.
“So, for the ongoing football field project, we will assign the remaining work to another party, a government company working on this island. God willing, we will arrange for the remaining work to begin as soon as the current construction is completed, ensuring the field’s completion,” the President said in his meeting with Kumudhoo residents.
