The President, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, and the First Lady have participated in this year’s National Day flag hoisting ceremony.

The ceremony was held at the Republic Square.

The ceremony was attended by the President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the First Lady, along with cabinet ministers and senior government officials. Additionally, long-serving state employees and members of the Parliament were also present.

The National Day flag hoisting ceremonies were held in Male’ and other islands at 6:00 AM today to mark the National Day. After the flag hoisting, a special prayer was offered.

The Maldives celebrates National Day in commemoration of Sultan Al-Ghazi Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al-Auzam freeing the country from Portuguese rule. This day corresponds to the first day of Rabi’ al-awwal in the year 981 of the Islamic calendar.

The government has decided to organize elaborate activities to celebrate this year’s National Day as well. Accordingly, this year’s official National Day ceremony will be held in H.A. Utheemu, the birthplace of the National Day hero, Muhammad Thakurufaanu. The National Day ceremony will include the presentation of the National Award of Honor and the National Award of Recognition.
