Over 100,000 tourists from Italy so far this year

The number of tourists visiting the Maldives from Italy has exceeded one hundred thousand so far this year. According to statistics, 7.2% of tourists who visited the Maldives so far this year are from Italy. The “Daily Update Report” released by the Ministry of Tourism shows that as of the 17th of this month, 1.4 million tourists have visited the Maldives. This is a 9% increase compared to the same period last year.

Statistics show that 101,051 tourists from Italy have visited the Maldives so far this year. Italy ranks as the 4th highest source market for tourists to the Maldives so far this year. Last year, Italy was in 5th place on this list. So far this year, four countries have sent over 100,000 tourists to the Maldives. They are:

  • China: 217,041 tourists
  • Russia: 167,418 tourists
  • United Kingdom: 129,371 tourists
  • Italy: 101,051 tourists

So far in August, 114,509 tourists have visited the Maldives. This is a 4.6% increase compared to the same period in August last year. On average, 6,736 tourists arrive in the Maldives daily so far this August. According to the Ministry of Tourism’s statistics, the largest percentage of tourists who have visited so far this year stayed in resorts. That accounts for 1,034,119 tourists. The second most popular accommodation type was guesthouses, with 308,095 tourists.

The government has set a target of bringing 2.3 million tourists to the Maldives this year. Therefore, considering the number of tourists who have visited so far, approximately 900,000 more tourists are needed to reach the government’s target.
