Visit Maldives Corporation has launched a special campaign to bring 200,000 tourists from India this year. This campaign by Visit Maldives aims to increase the number of tourists coming from India during this year. Visit Maldives Corporation has initiated numerous activities as part of this campaign named “From Tiranga to Turquoise”. Visit Maldives stated that the campaign name symbolizes the journey from India’s colorful flag to the Maldives’ turquoise seas and beaches. As India is one of the largest markets for tourists coming to the Maldives, increasing the number of tourists from this market is a goal, according to the company promoting Maldivian tourism. Visit Maldives Corporation said this is an effort to further strengthen cultural ties between the two countries and connect them more through tourism.
Launching this campaign, Ibrahim Shiury, Managing Director of Visit Maldives Corporation, said that India is the closest neighboring country and the relationship is based on cultural ties and trust. Shiury also said that this campaign will make India one of the top 4 countries bringing the most tourists to the Maldives. Shiury has stated that the Maldives is ready for different categories of Indian tourists.
Activities carried out as part of this initiative include influencer collaborations, media familiarization trips, and publishing news and other advertorial content in popular Indian newspapers. Additionally, road shows will be conducted in three cities with airlines, media partners, and other businesses in the industry.
Visit Maldives said that compared to 2018, the number of tourists coming from India has increased by 130% over the past 3 years. In 2023 alone, a record number of 209,193 tourists visited from that country, and so far this year, half of that number has already arrived in the Maldives. The campaign launched by the company to increase Indian tourists is based on this growth, and the goal is to increase the number of tourists coming from India to 200,000 by the end of this year due to the campaign, according to Visit Maldives Corporation. Furthermore, with the recent landmark visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Maldives, the company expressed confidence that the relationship between the Maldives and India will be further strengthened, including ties in the tourism sector.
Visit Maldives has previously worked extensively to further strengthen this market. They noted that a high-profile event held in Mumbai last February with over 100 high-end participants and 20 influencers reached 200 million on social media. Additionally, during the last Eid al-Adha, a campaign was conducted in the Maldives with famous Bollywood producer and director Farah Khan. According to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, 79,972 tourists have come to the Maldives from India so far this year. Currently, this market ranks as the 6th largest in terms of tourist arrivals.
