Mohamed Lamhaan, who held the position of Deputy Managing Director at MACL, has been appointed today as the Vice Chairman of New Radiant. Ahmed Mubeen, the Chairman of New Radiant, one of the most successful clubs in the Maldives, stated that Lamhaan was appointed to the position of Vice President under the authority granted to EXCO by the constitution. Currently, there are three individuals in the position of Vice President at New. They are Mujtaba Jaleel, who also serves as Vice President in the current leadership of FAM, and Mohamed Ibrahim (Kappey), the PNC member for Henveiru West constituency in the People’s Majlis. Kappey is also the Senior Vice President of FAM. Additionally, Mujtaba is the Managing Director of WAMCO.
Mubeen said that since Mujtaba and Kappey have taken up positions at FAM, their involvement in New’s work has become very limited.
“I met with FAM President [Ahmed Thoriq] Tom. He said that Muje and Kappey’s involvement in FAM’s work is more necessary at this time,” Mubeen said. “So I need Vice Presidents who can participate in the club’s work. That’s why we submitted Lamhaan’s name to EXCO and appointed him as Vice President. The constitution gives that power to EXCO.”
Mubeen, who recently resigned from the position of Managing Director of Regional Airports, said that he is currently fully available for the club’s work.
According to Mubeen, they will also bring another person to the position to contribute to New’s work. “I’m thinking of bringing another person as Vice Chairman. The aim is to bring someone else who can contribute to and participate in the club’s work,” said Mubeen, who also holds the position of Vice Chairman of the Golden Jubilee committee formed by FAM this month.
New Radiant, a former football powerhouse, is currently in the second division. The team’s efforts to rise to the first division over the past two years have also been unsuccessful.
