The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy is preparing to launch a project to establish a 50-megawatt renewable energy system across 24 islands of the Maldives. This initiative represents a significant step toward achieving the target set by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to source 33 percent of the country’s electricity from renewable energy by the end of 2028. The project aims to reduce expenditure on fossil fuels, ensure energy independence, and decrease greenhouse gas emissions. Currently, work is already underway across 101 islands to install 164 megawatts of solar hybrid systems along with 158 megawatts of battery storage capacity.
