
According to statistics released by the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), Zakat al-Mal collections reached MVR 7.5 million in May this year, marking a significant 73% increase compared to the same period last year. By the end of May, the total Zakat al-Mal collected for the year amounted to MVR 58 million.
The current Nisab (the minimum threshold of wealth) for Zakat al-Mal is set at MVR 21,836.50. While MIRA facilitates Zakat payments through its online platforms, the Maldives Zakat House has successfully distributed a total of MVR 13.1 million to the 2,384 individuals registered in the registry of the poor. Each eligible recipient received MVR 5,500, marking the highest per capita distribution of Zakat al-Mal recorded to date.
