President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has emphasized that national team selections will be restricted to athletes who do not consume tobacco products, highlighting the necessity for the Ministry of Sports and sporting associations to collaborate effectively in achieving this objective. This Cabinet decision is aimed at fostering a healthier youth population and elevating the overall health and performance standards of athletes. The President further underscored the importance of providing incentives and creating supportive environments to encourage athletes to lead tobacco-free lives. Additionally, a nationwide awareness campaign regarding the hazards of tobacco and nicotine is set to be expanded across the islands, with the active participation of the sports community.
