
Vice President Al-Usthaadh Hussain Mohamed Latheef has cast his ballot in the ongoing elections, which include the election of city mayors and council members, as well as a constitutional referendum to determine public opinion on holding presidential and parliamentary elections on the same day.
The Vice President cast his vote at the polling station designated for the residents of GDh. Faresmaathoda, located at Henveiru Stadium. A total of 294,876 individuals are eligible to vote in today’s elections.
For this election cycle, three types of ballot papers have been printed. This includes 297,959 ballots for the local council elections, 292,706 ballots for the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections, and 298,180 ballots for the public referendum.
According to the Elections Commission, a grand total of 888,845 ballot papers were printed for these combined electoral processes.
The Local Council and WDC elections traditionally see the highest number of candidates in the Maldives. In this election, 1,368 candidates are contesting for local council seats, while 1,593 candidates are vying for positions on the Women’s Development Committees.
