The Cabinet has decided to redevelop the Home for People with Special Needs in K. Guraidhoo—a facility with a history spanning over 50 years—into a modern, comprehensive service centre. This initiative encompasses the construction of new accommodation blocks and the upgrading of existing infrastructure. A key government policy driving this transformation is to facilitate the successful reintegration of residents into society following their treatment, by creating employment opportunities and empowering them to lead independent lives. Under this policy, 60 individuals have already completed their rehabilitation at the centre and have been successfully reintegrated into the community.
