The Government of Maldives has formally submitted the nominations of former Cabinet Ministers Thoriq Ibrahim and Adam Shareef Umar to the People’s Majlis for parliamentary approval as ambassadors.

In a communication addressed to the Parliament, the President proposed the appointment of Thoriq Ibrahim as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Maldives to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Thoriq has previously served in the current administration as the Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, and as the Minister of Environment and Tourism.

Furthermore, the President has nominated Adam Shareef Umar to serve as the Maldives’ Ambassador to the State of Qatar. Adam Shareef most recently held the portfolio of Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works. Both Thoriq and Adam Shareef resigned from their respective ministerial positions to facilitate the President’s strategic restructuring of the Cabinet. Following their resignations, they were both appointed as Ambassadors-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
