The Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Heena Waleed, has underscored the importance of digitizing the Maldives’ cultural heritage sites to ensure they are showcased effectively to a global audience. As part of the efforts to preserve the nation’s Islamic heritage, five coral stone mosques have been officially nominated for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Minister further noted that while the maintenance and preservation of these historical sites require significant investment, achieving UNESCO recognition would facilitate access to international technical expertise and financial support. Furthermore, such recognition would provide a vital platform to promote the exceptional craftsmanship and artistry of Maldivian ancestors to the rest of the world.
