President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has ratified the 19th amendment to the Decentralization Act of the Maldives, bringing the new legislative changes into immediate effect. Aimed at accelerating government development projects and ensuring streamlined cooperation from local councils, this amendment outlines specific procedures for withdrawing land from council jurisdictions for national projects and facilitates the establishment of Integrated Service Centres. Furthermore, the amendment mandates the transfer of assets and resources previously managed by Atoll Councils to the Ministry of Finance.
