On the occasion of National Day, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu officially inaugurated “Vaahaka Vau,” an interpretive trail depicting the national struggle of Bodu Thakurufaanu, located near the Kanduvalu Mosque in HA. Utheemu. Set within a natural forested area, the site features 14 information boards detailing pivotal historical events from the Portuguese occupation of Malé in 1558 until the liberation of the Maldives in 1573.

This project, spearheaded by the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, aims to preserve historical heritage and enhance the local economy of Utheemu through cultural tourism, thereby creating new income-generating opportunities for the island’s residents.
