The Cabinet has decided to implement stricter regulations regarding the issuance of SIM cards. Under these new measures, legal action will be taken against the registered owners of SIM cards smuggled into prisons. Additionally, unskilled expatriates will be restricted to a single SIM card, and a new SIM card can only be obtained through a specific procedure involving the police if the original is lost. Furthermore, the government has resolved to work towards making the Maldives a country with the lowest rate of individuals in pretrial detention without sentencing.
