The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has instructed all vessel owners to remove their craft from the designated area in Thilafushi within seven days to facilitate the commencement of the Malé Commercial Port relocation project. This initiative represents a strategic government effort to provide a permanent solution to the ongoing congestion at the Malé port.
A significant portion of this project has been contracted to the China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), with the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) also tasked with specific components. The development includes the construction of an international quay wall and a domestic terminal. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that 80 percent of the project is expected to be completed and operational by November of next year. Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) anticipates that this relocation will streamline the nation’s logistics sector and significantly enhance the efficiency of the cargo transportation system.
