
In recognition of his invaluable contributions to the nation in the field of sports, specifically in training and developing athletes, the National Award of Recognition has been posthumously conferred to the late Ihsan Abdul Ghanee (Santhi). Coach Santhi, who passed away on March 22, 2025, was an exceptionally successful coach, renowned for his dedication to discovering and nurturing young talent across the Maldives. Throughout his coaching career, he played a pivotal role as the Assistant Coach of the National Team during significant milestones, including the historic 2004 match against South Korea and the Maldives’ SAFF Championship victories in 2008 and 2018. He also served with distinction as the Technical Director of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM). Furthermore, his legacy includes building a formidable youth-based squad at Club Eagles, leading them to clinch the President’s Cup in 2016. Many of the players developed under his guidance continue to excel and achieve great success in the national teams today.
