On the occasion of the Maldives’ Independence Day, the Australian Special Envoy, Tim Watts, conducted an official visit to the Maldives, during which high-level discussions were held with Foreign Minister Irutisham Adam to further enhance bilateral relations. The discussions primarily focused on key sectors, including trade, tourism, education, climate change, and maritime security. Minister Irutisham expressed gratitude for Australia’s continuous support to the Maldives and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the partnership between the two nations. Significant milestones in this relationship include Australia’s recent gift of a vessel to the Maldives, the signing of a maritime security agreement, and the commencement of direct flight operations between the two countries.
