India Waives Export Duties on Petroleum Products to the Maldives

The Government of India has officially notified and gazetted the decision to waive export duties on petroleum products supplied to the Maldives. This strategic concession comes at a critical time when global oil supplies are facing uncertainties due to heightened tensions in the Middle East. Under this new arrangement, the Maldives is exempted from the ‘Special Additional Excise Duty’ and the ‘Road and Infrastructure Cess.’

While these benefits were previously extended to other neighboring countries, recent legislative amendments in India have now formally included the Maldives in this framework. This significant easing of trade terms follows high-level bilateral discussions aimed at ensuring the Maldives’ energy security and stabilizing fuel costs.
