
The government has decided to seek international expertise and assistance to bolster the search for three individuals missing after the supply vessel “Friend 4” capsized and sank while traveling from Laamu Atoll to Huvadhu Atoll. The incident, which occurred on the night of the 5th of this month, involved the disappearance of a military officer, a police officer, and the vessel’s captain.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that they are currently collaborating with international partners to secure the technical support required for the ongoing search operation. According to estimates by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), the vessel is believed to have foundered in an area where the sea depth reaches approximately 1,645 meters.
