The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has mobilized the necessary machinery and vehicles to Addu City for the major project aimed at developing the Link Road and other urban roads. Following the completion of initial surveys, site preparation works are currently underway, including road clearing and the relocation of trees to facilitate road expansion.
Funded by the state budget with an investment exceeding MVR 829 million, this extensive project covers the development of a 67.58-kilometer road network. The scope of work includes the installation of an efficient drainage system and the upgrading of the road into a four-lane asphalt-paved highway.
While the project was officially contracted in April 2023, RDC aims to complete the works ahead of the established schedule. This infrastructure upgrade is expected to provide a lasting solution to the frequent and dangerous accidents occurring on the Addu Link Road, significantly enhancing safety for all commuters.
